Materials List for Portraiture Class, Liz Frankland
Acrylic or Oil Paints:
Titanium White
Cadmium Red
Yellow Ochre
Ivory Black
This is a good limited palette for anyone just starting. (Bring other colors that you already have.)
Brushes:
Have one small round #2 brush for blocking in and another larger #4 flat or filbert for laying in the paint. Synthetic blends are good for edges. Bristle brushes have a lot of texture, and are good for larger areas but not for details. I use the Tuscan series from Blick, maroon handles. (Bring any that you may already have.)
Substrate:
Bring either a pad of canvas paper for oil/acrylic 9x12 or pre-gessoed canvas boards 9x12 . We will be doing one study per session. 9x12 is a manageable size. But 11x14 will work too.
Palette Paper with white background
we will be mixing paint for color charts and for our studies. and it’s helpful to be able to store them. Consider a stay-wet palette to store your mixed paint in. Blick sells them. For Acrylics, the Masterson Sta-wet Palette is nice. The red lidded one is for acrylics. The blue lidded one is for oils.
Palette Knife - something metal and smaller that feels flexible; not plastic.
Rags or blue paper shop towels
